Losing clients? Check your online presence!

Your online presence portrays a digital representation of your business, it acts as a gateway to new clients and increased business. From websites to social media, all aspects of your digital marketing strategy must be maintained to show clients you are open and ready for business. A poor online presence may lead to potential and even existing clients going to your competitors. Here is a summary of the top five things that could ruin your online reputation if not managed properly:

1. Not updating your website

Updating your website should be a key part of your digital strategy. A website can be a huge investment, and it needs to be maintained to achieve ROI (return on investment). Add fresh content, incorporate keywords, update your products and services; all of this will not only show that you are actively running your business but will also increase SEO (search engine optimisation). Website maintenance is also important to keep your website running smoothly, if a page fails to load the visitor is likely to give up and move on to the next search result.

2. Forgetting user experience

Bad user experience is a sure-fire way to lose your clients. Whether this is due to poor website design, poor navigation, no call-to-action, no contact page, or quite simply because the website is not optimised to be used on various devices. Think about the websites you use, what do you like about them and what frustrates you? If you’re still not sure how to improve the user experience, ask your clients for feedback. This engagement will provide valuable information, plus it will show clients that you value their custom and want to improve their experience.

3. Ignoring complaints

Ignoring genuine complaints could result in pushing potential clients straight into the arms of your competitors. Remember that when searching for your business online the client may stumble upon review sites too, so show that you proactively respond to all reviews, the good and the bad.

4. Poor website content

We have discussed the importance of content in previous posts, there are many advantages to be had with keeping it fresh.Increased SEO, engagement and website traffic to name a few. When a visitor comes across your website they need to be hooked by the content to avoid them bouncing off the page. Great content is a tried and tested method that has proven to increase client trust and loyalty.

5. Bad management of social media

The trick with social media is to keep your posts frequent and engaging. Inactive social media accounts may leave users wondering if the business is up and running or not. Keep the content relevant, dull updates can be just as detrimental as having no posts at all! Social media is a great opportunity to share information about your products and services, links to blog posts and updating your followers on any awards or achievements. If time is the issue, posts can be scheduled so you do not need to be active throughout the day. However, it is important to check-in daily to respond to messages and comments.
