Social Media Marketing

October 6, 2018

Social media marketing is the process of gaining traffic or attention through social media sites. The discovery of new content on social media helps to build links that in turn support SEO efforts. The most common social media platforms are; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, You Tube and Google Plus. Continue reading to find out how social media marketing can improve your business

1. Increased Brand Awareness

Consumers do not just connect with brands they already know on social media. Whether they mean to or not, through adverts or a friend’s recommendation on their newsfeed, consumers are exposed to new brands through social media platforms. This is great news for business, as your brand becomes easily accessible and increasingly recognisable.

2. Improved Customer Relationships and Loyalty

A report published by Texas Tech University found that brands who engage on social media enjoy higher loyalty from their customers. Social media provides another connection with consumers, you are providing useful information and you are not asking for anything in return. This gains the loyalty of the consumer, as they increasingly recognise your brand, its associated values and acknowledge that you care about them.

3. Enhanced SEO

Sharing content on social media pages and driving traffic to your website creates a ‘brand motion’. This is recognised by search engine crawlers, and the more activity they pick up, the higher your website will appear in search rankings. This will increase the number of potential consumers coming across your website and converting them to life-long customers.

4. Drives Traffic to Your Website

The good news is that whatever your industry and audience, a substantial portion of your customers and leads are on social media. Therefore, consumers are more likely to see your social media posts than come across your website. Social media content provides an opportunity for consumers to find your website, and for every social media profile your brand has, the more pathways there are leading to your website.

5. Customer Engagement

Social media provides another avenue of communication with your consumers. The advantage is that like your website you have total control of the content, the appearance and how you interact with consumers. As many consumers have a social media presence this could be your first line of contact with them, even before they have seen your website. This highlights the importance of engaging content as the aim is to attract the consumer and increase inbound traffic to your website.

6. Decreased Marketing Costs

Of course, some time must be invested, but in regards to social media a little effort goes a long way. The key is to make sure that all social media platforms you use are kept up-to-date with new or reposted content to keep engaging consumers. This comes at a fraction of the cost of targeted Google ads.

7. Reputation Management

What your customers are saying about you can make or break your business. Whether it is positive or negative press, reviews or awards, social media provides a platform for you to respond or share this information in a professional manner.

8. Learn About Your Competitors

Social media is all about sharing information – take a look at your competitors, how do they engage consumers? How regularly do they post? How quickly do they respond to consumers? Consider what you would do the same or differently.
